Research Institutes

Kazusa Akademia Park was developed as a hub for research and academic-industrial alliance in leading edge technology. Top class research institutes in biotechnology such as the Kazusa DNA Research Institute and the Biological Resources Preservation and Supply Facility are located in the center of the park. Incubation facilities are located around the core facilities which aim to support spin-off and start-up companies to develop new technologies and innovations.

Kazusa DNA Research Institute

Kazusa DNA Research Institute (KDRI) was founded in 1991 as one of the leading research institutes in Japan and has since been engaged in large-scale sequencing and analysis of the genomes of plants and related bacteria as well as human cDNAs. Based on these results, research has been carried out on various genes functioning in plant and human cells.

The Biological Resources Preservation and Supply Facility (NITE)

The other core facility is the Biological Resources Preservation and Supply Facility, which was established by the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE). The facility collects microbial resources and performs taxonomic characterization of individual microorganisms such as bacteria including actinomycetes and archaea, yeasts, fungi, algaes, bacteriophages and DNA resources for academic research and industrial applications.

Incubation facility

The park offers various options for spin-off and start-up companies to develop innovations and expand business in Kazusa. Chiba Prefectural Government established the Kazusa Incubation Center, which is a rental R&D facility which is suitable for usage as laboratories as well as offices. This facility is equipped with Biosafety Level (BSL) 2 laboratory.
